MAGE MONTH - ROUND 3

Welcome to the end of week 2 of Mage Month, and the results are surprising. With round one itself being filled with stellar upsets, round 2 was anybody's game. Fans commented not only on the battle this round but on who would take the whole shebang, and our last few contestants all have a massive following so you can be sure that the finals will be even more exciting. Not only that, but the fans themselves proved that this was more than just a popularity contest, as many commented that they were actively voting against their favorite character, not because of any change in allegiance, but because of logic, reasoning, and evidence that one is more powerful than another. Still others, however, still went at the battle with the fervor we are expecting of Mage Month fans. Either way, here are the results of our stellar Mage Month week 2 battles.

Emperor Palpatine vs Daigotsu

Sith Sorcery vs. Daigotsu's arsenal of spells? Somebody gonna need a new clone body after the fight... –Tzimisce

Just throw Palpatine over a balcony, that's all Daigotsu would need to do. –KingOfOdonata

"I built a balcony overlooking the Festering Pit of Fu Leng just for the occasion." – Daigotsu (courtesy of McBeth2001)

So we are back to a fight of raw power and spells. And there, I am afraid it might be dirty, lengthy and messy, but in the end, I still think Daigotsu beats Palpatine….Palpatine stands no chance. Once they are both out of bodies to jump from and to, there are two solutions: Daigotsu gets Palpatine tainted in the process or Palpatine's soul ends up floating into empty space forever. Or both. –Alphast

This one battle is the battle that I have to say surprised us most at the office. Palpatine had the massive Star Wars fandom at his side and yet, Daigotsu from Legend of the Five Rings, who was one of our underdogs in this competition, beat him with 4 times the votes. Even Palpatine fans admitted that Daigotsu simply was too powerful for the emperor to handle. Whether it was the Emperor's age, hubris, or his suspicious weakness to conveniently placed balconies, Daigotsu simply capitalized and beat the emperor down, but hard. The result? Daigotsu has a new slave soul, Palpatine is broken from his cycle of reincarnation, and the brand new balconies we built in TCGplayer stadium can now be opened for seating.

Urza vs Dr. Strange

Urza is a planeswalker of undeniable power. Dr. Strange... dresses funny. -bestopher

I'm a huge marvel fan and I pretty much hate magic so obviously I voted for… URZA…let's be honest here, Dr. Strange may dress cool and have a crystal ball, but cool clothes, a crystal ball, and some mystical junk...I mean artifacts, are nothing compared to an entire magical army. –Zaborg_da_Lame

Urza´s power, its beyond our imagination, that's the reason he never got printed into a card on MTG universe, and never will, Strange is powerful, but not enough... -LazaroTheRed

Also, Urza is a planeswalker. Do we really need to repeat this? He wins. –Corbeau

This battle came down to a simple fact, Urza is a planeswalker. Magic is a game that is known for its Mages, in fact the entire theme of the game is Mages fighting. Urza is the poster boy of mages in the mage based game and that pushed him WAY over the edge. Once again, we pegged Strange for winning this battle especially after Urza almost lost against Maxxor in round one. Strange even got some strong final hour support which made Urza only win by a mere ten votes. Maybe if the competition went on another week the Sorcerer Supreme could have taken Urza out, but as things stand Urza walks away with the gold.

So here we are at the final round of Mage Month, right in time for the holidays. We have two absolutely crazy mages, each with near infinite power. Will a hoard of artifacts and giant fighting robots defeat the power of the shadowlands? Can Daigotsu's political machinations break through Urza's sheer insanity? Is the power of darkness truly infinite? Can the planeswalkers spark be extinguished? Well Mage Month is going to come back…. After the holidays that is. So you will have two whole weeks to argue yourselves hoarse, until we reach our final conclusion New Year's Eve! Until then, for the best in mage battles, keep it here with TCGplayer.com
